GEOCHEMICAL SERVICE

Geochemical Services designed to provide valuable information for exploration and reservoir management purposes are provided through a highly dynamic and operationally integrated laboratory. Oils-Rock Analyses and Correlation, Surface Prospecting and Data Bases are available.

Within the frame of a modern and practical comprehensive program for wellsite geological, geochemical and engineering data, SPT-Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A.

introduces as a standard service organic geochemical analyses for cutting samples, sidewall cores and cores, through the pyrolysis Rock-Eval II and Total Organic Carbon Analyses.

This type of operation ensures sample quality control through depth representativity of samples and identification of potential contaminants, from wellhead to lab, and report submission to client. It ensures, as well, to have "reliable" results in less time, which translates into a more efficient and less costly operation.

APPLICATIONS

The main focus in our program of geochemical services is hydrocarbon source bed evaluation, the identification of maturity levels, as well as to provide additional data to assist in payzone identification.

The use of pyrolysis Rock-Eval/TOC as a screening method eliminates the need to carry out more detailed studies for those areas showing no potential. This enables detail analyses on the more interesting intervals to begin sooner.
Geochemical information and applications can be summarized into three categories:

SOURCE BED EVALUATION

· Total Organic Carbon (T.O.C) content.

· Evaluation of source rock quality and hydrogen richness.

· Determination of remaining potential for hydrocarbon generation.

· Estimation of the hydrocarbon type generated by the source (oil or gas).

· Determination of source bed maturity and depth required for oil generation.

PAYZONE EVALUATION

· Identification of potential producing zones by direct analysis of cuttings.

· Identification of accumulated and migrated hydrocarbons.

DRILLING APPLICATIONS

· Recognition of important or problematic sections of a well through identification and location of specific geochemical zones.

· Correlation with electric logs and formation evaluation logs to improve any other data obtained and to aid in determining perforation intervals.

EQUIPMENT AND RESULTS PRESENTATION

The use of reliable equipment and the handling of high quality data analysis, in conjunction with the experience of SPT-Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A. in the application of organic geochemistry, are combined to provide our clients with the best geochemical service possible.

Instruments mainly used by SPT-Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A are

Rock-Eval II pyrolysis equipment
TOC determinator
High resolution gas chromatograph
High sensitivity and selectivity spectro-fluorometer
Data processing equipment

Rock-Eval II pyrolysis equipment

Analytical results are presented in complete interpretative results per well (including geochemical log), or else as simple data on tables and geochemical plots.

SERVICE IMPLEMENTATION

Always offering the same high standard, the geochemical service is available through SPT-Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A in the following configuration:

Independent analysis for TOC and Rock-Eval pyrolysis on drill cutting samples, sidewall cores and cores sent to the S.P.T S.A lab.

Integrated to the Mud Logging and Formation Evaluation services provided by SPT- Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A.

Source Rock Evaluation Studies of one or more exploratory wells (Multi-Well Study).

Regional geochemical studies.

These services are designed and adapted to meet the specific and objective requirements of each Client.
Integrating the Geochemical service to the Mud Logging and Formation Evaluation service provides ADDITIONAL ADVANTAGES such as:

Rapid adjustment and tailoring of the geochemical sampling program following the changes that may occur while drilling.

Close coordination with wellsite geologists and drilling engineers.

Better control of sample gathering and preparation.

Immediate identification of important stratigraphic zones for prioritary analysis.

Better control over the drilling fluids and additives used, which may affect directly the geochemical analyses.

COSTS AND BENEFITS

Compared to the total expense of drilling operations, the cost of our geochemical services is minimum when considering time and availability of the geochemical data. On the other hand, the many ways of implementing analytical programs provides flexibility for adapting to different budgets.

The benefits obtained are:

Representative and controlled samples.
Effective contamination control.
Results quickly available
Integrated geochemical data, from source to Mud Logging and Formation Evaluation.
Effective application of geochemical results.
Higher overall efficiency of the process.
Lower costs.
Integrated Service Concept - no "Third Party" interventions - from design of the geochemical sampling program to delivery of results.
