General

This technique enables quantitative determination (in terms of relative units of fluorescence intensity) of liquid hydrocarbons occurrence in drilling cutting or cores, preventing those problems associated with conventional techniques.

The H.R.S.Q.F.T measures oil fluorescence using a selective high sensitivity spectro-fluorometer. Oil is extracted from the samples with an appropriate solvent and its fluorescence measured. The readings thus obtained, as units of fluorescence intensity, are proportional to the oil content in the sample.

Description of Unit

The spectro-fluorometer used by S.P.T - Synergic Petroleum Technologies S.A can make wavelength variations of both emission and excite waves, thus providing the method with a great versatility advantage. This marks a difference with other quantitative fluorescence techniques that have a fix length for emission and excite waves.

Applications:

- A reliable method for detecting liquid hydrocarbons through the aromatic fraction.
- In combination with high speed and
high resolution gas chromatography (micro GC) under the frame of local models, it has a high predictive potential in terms of fluid types.
- Helps delineate the characteristics of the potential reservoir rocks, in terms of saturating fluids.
- Can be used in the study of sidewall cores for decision making in operations, complementary to evaluation and correlation.

Results

The results obtained are plotted as a function of depth in the Formation Evaluation Log, in order to identify zones with oil potential.
